In June, high school student Jan Herzig won the national round of the High School Science Competition in the field of physics with a paper on the evolution of exoplanets, which he wrote under the supervision of Ji\u0159\u00ed \u017d\u00e1k from the Stellar Department of the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Based on this success, he and 40 other successful students from the national round across various fields were invited to the selection of candidates for international competitions, which took place on Friday, October 3, at the University of Pardubice.<\/p>\n\n\n

Unlike the national round, the expert jury did not evaluate the work itself, but the presentation was based on the defense of a poster summarizing only the most important results of the work. Everything took place in English, which, along with the presentation and technical aspects of the project, was a key factor evaluated by the expert jury. After presenting the poster to ten experienced judges, the decision was made. Jan Herzig was selected to represent the Czech Republic at the prestigious TISF \u2013 Taiwan International Science and Engineering Fair, which will take place in early February in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei. There, he will compete for an award against students from around the world with his work researching exoplanets from the hot Jupiter group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
