The mirror of the Perek 2-m telescope sent to Germany for a new coating

During our tours of the Ondřejov Observatory we always tell you that once every few years the main mirror of the largest Czech telescope is taken out of the telescope to be taken to Germany for a new coating. You can see what preceded this and how difficult it is, even though it looks so easy from the video, in the time-lapse videos and photos taken during the disassembly. You can see the telescope in the so-called service position supported by blue bars, the mobile platform, the mirror sleeve, the movement of the dome, the crane lifting the heavy parts (the mirror itself weighs 2,400 kg). It’s always one of the most challenging tasks with this colossal telescope.
