On Wednesday 26 June, the Minister of Transportation Martin Kupka, accompanied by the President of the Academy of Sciences Professor Radomír Pánek, visited the observatory of the Astronomical Institute of the CAS in Ondřejov. He toured the Solar Patrol Service and discussed the European Space Agency missions with significant Czech participation Solar Orbiter and Proba 3, looked at the European bolide network cameras in the Interplanetary Matter Department and saw the largest Czech telescope with a diameter of 2 meters, which is also involved in the next planned mission of the European Space Agency PLATO designed to search for a second Earth in space.
The Ministry of Transport is in charge of space science and space missions within the European Space Agency, where the Czech Republic is represented. The scientific involvement of academic institutions in these missions is coordinated by the Institute of Astronomy of the CAS within the framework of the AV 21 – Space for Humanity Strategy programme. In a broader sense, it is part of the government’s Czech Journey to Space project.
